Style Tricks That Make You Look Slimmer

One of the best things about styling an outfit is you have the ability to play with proportions. You can trick the eye into making you look taller, slimmer, and more! It is all about what you wear. The best part about these styling tricks is that you look slimmer without actually having to do anything! Everyone's body is beautiful the way it is, but let's be honest- everyone wants to looks their outfits to make them look slim and flattering. Here are 5 little tricks I have picked up that actually work in making your body appear slimmer!
1. Juuj Your Sleeve
For everyone that doesn't know what "juuj" means- this just means pull up your sleeves!! I can't really explain why, but it is just a fact that showing your forearm makes your waist look smaller. You can just pull up your sleeve or you can roll them if you're wearing a sweater or blazer that can be rolled. I like the messy and undone look of just pulling your sleeve up, and if it won't stay but you like how it looks, take a stretched out rubber band and put it over your sleeve, then cover it and you will stay perfectly juujed all day! Showing a little forearm will work every time!
2. Throw On a Topper
A topper can be anything from a cardigan, blazer, jean jacket, or anything in between! It is just a third piece that you can wear over something. Wearing a topper tricks the eye into thinking you are only as wide as the shirt you can see underneath the topper. The vertical lines created by wearing a topper also helps in elongating your torso- making you look longer and thinner. Even from the side, the eye is tricked into making you look like you lost 5 lbs. These are all tricks on the eye so I can't really explain why these work, I just know they do!
3. Tuck In Your Top
I've touched on this a couple of times in other blog posts because this is one I use all the time. Tucking in your top allows your waist to have definition, which gives your body shape and ends up making you look more slim. If you are someone that doesn't want to bring attention to your waist, I still recommend tucking in your top then reaching for the ceiling really high so you get that perfectly bloused look. More times than not, if you aren't tucking your shirt in because you don't want the attention in your waist, you are actually creating a more unflattering look and drawing more attention to that area. I'm not saying you have to tuck every single top into every single pair of pants- this is totally situational depending on the outfit. If you put on an outfit and feel like something is missing, try tucking your top and I bet that'll make you feel better!!
4. Wear a Long Necklace
This is probably the easiest and most simple way to trick the eye into making you look slimmer. A long necklace only works for certain outfits though, so keep that in mind! You don't want to wear a long necklace with a top that has detail or fabric at the neck (like a turtleneck for example), and you don't want a necklace if the shirt has a busy pattern. When you throw on a long necklace, the idea is that you want it to fall in between your boobs (I know this sounds weird but by breaking up the girls you look taller and slimmer). By having the necklace fall down your center, it creates another vertical line making you appear taller and slimmer. It also draws the eye to the necklace which is in the center of your body so that your waist ultimately looks smaller.
5. Pick a Bold Shoe
Another simple, but effective style trick! When choosing a shoe to go with an outfit, go for one with a pattern, or a fun color. Obviously, you still want your shoe to go with your outfit, but go for a more bold choice. An example is, if you are wearing an all black outfit, instead of wearing a black or white shoe, opt for a hot pink. By choosing an eye catching shoe, you are bringing the attention down to your feet. This creates balance in your outfit. Doing this makes you legs look longer and your body look leaner. When attention is brought to your shoes, people aren't paying attention to other places on your body like your arms or waist. It weirdly works!
Remember that all of these are just style tricks to make you feel more confident! No one needs to lose any weight or be a certain size. These tricks are purely for you because when you like how you look, you are more confident and happy!!
