Florence Street Style

Ciao! I am studying abroad in Florence, Italy- home of some incredible fashion. Overall, Europe is very trendy and stylish, but living in Florence I get to see some of the major fashion trends that are happening. Walking down the street is like sitting at a fashion show because everyone is runway ready at all times. No one wears super casual outfits and not a single person in the streets is dressed like they’re going to the gym. I wanted to share some of the major fashion themes I have seen so far from the Italian fashionistas themselves!
Leather Jackets- This one might seem obvious, since Florence is known for it’s incredible leather products. From boots to bags to jackets, there are some areas of Florence that just smell like real leather from all the products being sold in the streets. I have noticed that a beautiful leather jacket- brown, black, even maroon- is a staple in every Italian’s wardrobe. Even leather jackets with fur on the inside are a huge hit in the cold month of February. A leather jacket is something that Italians can throw on with every outfit imaginable. I have seen leather jackets worn with jeans, skirts, dresses, and even flowy cashmere pants. It truly is a beautiful piece of the fashion here in Florence.
Fun Pants- The people in Florence wear all sorts of pants that are anything but the usual skinny jeans we see everywhere in America. There are a lot of flare and bellbottom jeans happening at the moment, paired with a sweater or turtleneck and leather jacket. Another type of pants I have seen in almost every store is corduroys. They come in every color- burnt orange, hot pink, white, black- and seem to be another thing every fashionable Florentine owns. The corduroys are straight legged or mom jean sort of shape to them and seem to go with any and every top someone wants to style them with.
Leather Boots- I expected there to be a lot of boots before coming to Italy, but I underestimated how many and how they’re worn. I have seen all sorts of black leather booties worn in such trendy and fun ways. The most common leather bootie style I have seen is with silver studs and buckles. People wear a sweater or leather jacket, a pair of flared jeans, and the cute leather boots. Not only does this instantly look chic and polished but wearing a durable pair of leather booties is ideal for all the walking on cobblestone throughout the city.
Accessories- There is not an outfit that I have seen that has not been accessorized in some way. I have seen a ton of people wearing thick gold hoops, or any other kind of statement earring in addition to their already fabulous outfit. Paired with the earrings I have seen a lot of different kinds of rings and necklaces, layered and mixed with all different styles, shapes, and sizes. Purses are another huge accessory that everyone seems to have at all times. Leather fanny packs, crossbody bags in animal prints, and big purses of all different colors. In Florence, your outfit is really not complete without some sort of accessory.
