Why You Struggle to Get Dressed and Tips to Help

I'm back!! Life has been super hectic lately and I just have not had the time to sit down and write any blogs! To be honest, this blog alone has taken me a couple weeks to write. And not only that, I have not been feeling inspired lately. So what better blog post to come back with, than a topic that so many people have been struggling with lately. Even though I work in fashion, I also struggle to get dressed! And it's been happening a lot lately. So I decided to dig deep and try and figure out the reasons for this, and what tips I can give to help all of you get dressed with ease!

1. You Have Too Many Options

This might seem counterintuitive, but sometimes when you have too many options to choose from you go back to the tried and true pieces. If you have a closet that is busting at the seams, yet you find yourself only reaching for the same pieces over and over, it might be time to do a little clean out. Having too many options means that you might not even remember some of the pieces you have, or even that the pieces you do have you don't really like. The goal is to have a closet full of pieces you love, so if you have sooo much stuff, sometimes you are holding onto pieces for the wrong reasons. I promise, clearing out the pieces you never actually wear will help you next time you go to get dressed.

2. You Don't Have Enough Basics

I have talked about this before in a blog post, but it really applies to why you might be struggling to get dressed. If you have a lot of bright colors, patterns, and really cool pieces- that is great! But if you don't have simple and basic pieces to wear with the fun, it might feel hard to put together outfits that feel cohesive. Sometimes all you need to make an outfit feel complete is a boring white tee or a simple jean. Making sure you have basics mixed in with the fun pieces will help your outfits flow and come together easier- I promise!

3. Change of Season

This is one that hits me hard. When a new season begins and the weather starts to change, I suddenly forget how to dress for that weather. Especially when the weather is an in between temperature that isn't quite cold enough for a sweater or long sleeve, but definitely is not warm enough for a tee or tank. My ideas to fight this hard time of year, is to look back on what you wore last year, wear layers, and have a couple cardigans and light jackets that you love. I find looking back at outfits really helpful when I am struggling because I can draw inspiration from myself. Layering is also really helpful, so that you can wear that tank or tee that you love and just add that light layer over it that makes you feel great. This will make you feel put together and finished every time!

4. What You Do Have Doesn't Fit Right

If you're still reading and none of this really feels like it applies to you, your problem might not be the season or how much you have in your wardrobe. It might actually be how the pieces you do have fit. Do you often find yourself putting certain pieces on then taking them off every time? It might be because you can't ever find the right outfit to go with it, and it might also be that you don't feel good when you put it on. That is where going through your clothes comes into play again. Those pieces that you put on that don't feel great and never make it out the door are probably because they don't actually fit right. A lot of times we can't quite put our finger on what's wrong, we just know it doesn't look right. That is a fit issue! Say goodbye to those pieces and get them out of your closet. You'll find yourself happier and less stressed about getting dressed, and then you can buy new pieces that you actually love!

5. You Aren't Feeling Inspired

Even if you have all the perfect pieces in your wardrobe, putting them together to create that cute outfit can be challenging. I find that when I am really busy and I don't have a ton of time, I am uninspired which makes it harder to get dressed. I personally find a lot of inspiration through social media, Pinterest, and seeing people in public! So next time you're sitting there staring at all the clothes in your closet with no idea what to wear, go on Pinterest! Or even better, have someone in mind who's style you admire- a celebrity or an influencer- and go look at their feed. It's weird, but seeing what other people wear helps inspire you. You can find outfits you love that you can recreate with your own pieces. This is a great way to get your creative juices flowing, and will hopefully help get that inspiration back!
