How to Find Your Style

Knowing what your personal style is can be super important in building a long lasting wardrobe. Sometimes, you buy things just because you like them, but then find that you have nothing to wear them with. Knowing your style is useful not only when shopping, but can also help you really narrow your wardrobe down to the pieces that make you feel the best. Having those style words in mind also allows you to create outfits with pieces you love and that make you feel most like yourself. Maybe you know your style, and maybe you don't! But here is everything you need to know about finding your style.

What Are Style Words?

First things first, before you can identify what your style is, you need to know what all the style words are. Keep in mind that your style can be more than one of these! A lot of these words work together and help you narrow down your style to make getting dressed as easy as it can be. Having pieces that are all part of your style word can work together and build on each other to make outfits that are authentically you and your style. There are 8 different style words that you can identify with. They are: Classic, Glam, Boho, Casual, Preppy, Edgy, Minimalist, and Romantic.

How to Find Your Style Words

Seeing all 8 of the different style words might feel overwhelming. I mean, how do you actually know which words fit your style? To find what words you identify with, it takes time. I recommend going on Pinterest and typing each of the different words in. Then look through the pictures that come up with each word and see which ones spark something in you. For example, maybe you love the look of a leather jacket with everything- this would mean one of your style words is edgy. When looking through pictures of all these words, keep in mind that you can identify with more than one! Everyones style is so personal, so hone in on the words that mean the most to you. Here are some examples of each style.

Once You Identify Your Style

After you look at all the different style words and know which ones feel most authentic to your personal style, you can apply it to your life and wardrobe. Let's say your style is edgy and romantic and you love wearing dresses with combat boots and a leather jacket. You can add your own personal touch to your style words. Maybe you also love a really fabulous earring with this look- making your style Edgy and Romantic with a touch of Glam. Or maybe you love wearing leggings and think it looks really chic with a button down over workout wear. This would mean your style is Casual with a sprinkle of Preppy. There is absolutely no right or wrong when it comes to defining your personal style. So make it your own!

Applying Your Style

Now that you have an idea of what your style is- I like to think I am Classic and Casual with a little edge- you can apply it to your closet, your style, and your shopping habits. To apply it to your closet, it might take a little time. Overall, your closet should be about 80% pieces that are your style word- so pieces that really feel the vibe that you are going for. The last 20% can be other pieces that you mix in to help make your style your own. This helps apply your style words to your outfits, because what is in your closet feels cohesive with the style you identify with. This means no matter what you wear, it feels like you are dressing for your own personal style because that is what is in your wardrobe! And finally, applying your style words to shopping will help you buy pieces that you'll actually wear. Before buying something really ask yourself if 1. you feel this fits your style, and 2. if it goes with what you have. I promise this all really helps to make your style feel authentically you so you can put outfits together that make you feel confident and good every single day!
