How to Style a LBD (Little Black Dress)

A good little black dress (or LBD) is like the most timeless and important piece a girl can have in her closet. This black dress is one that fits like a glove and can be worn for literally anything (aside from a fancy event). A little black dress is a fashion basic that will get so much use- I promise. There are a million different ways to style a LBD and this is something you probably have in your closet but don't wear a ton because you don't know how. I am here to show you a bunch of different ways to style your LBD to look cute and chic for these hot summer days.

Sneakers + Hat + Crossbody Bag

This is the perfect way to style your LBD to be casual yet cute. Sneakers dress you down a little which would make a little black dress appropriate for running errands, shopping, weekend hangouts, pretty much anything! A dress is generally girly and feminine throwing on a baseball hat gives you a sporty edge. This kind of outfit would be perfect with a ponytail braid because it adds a little more edge and sporty-ness to the otherwise girly dress. A crossbody bag also helps dress this down to be super casual. So easy, so cute, and gives you an excuse to throw that LBD on!

Jean Jacket + Mules

When throwing a jean jacket on over a dress- any dress really- I would recommend a cropped one. A cropped jean jacket with a little black dress will help define your waist and give you shape. When you can see your waist you will always look slimmer and taller! A jean jacket looks SO cute over a LBD and still gives off a flirty, girly vibe. I think adding mules makes you still look polished but feminine. If you work somewhere more on the casual side, this would be a great work outfit. Duster Sweater + Sandals

This look gives me a laid back, summer night vibe. A long duster thrown over a short black dress is a great way to play with proportions and is still feminine and sweet. The long sweater paired with the short dress elongates your legs. I would pair this look either with a slide sandal or a strappy sandal. A slide will show more skin which makes you look taller and is the simpler option of the two. A strappy sandal helps bring more attention to your ankles and is a little more fun and spicy. Blazer + Wedges

I am sure by now you are tired of hearing me say this, but blazers really do go with everything. For this look, instead of opting for a cropped topper like you want when wearing the dress with a jean jacket, I would go for an oversized blazer. An oversized blazer would look especially chic with a tighter black dress, because the tight dress and oversized feel of the blazer are a juxtaposition. This look would look so polished and put together with a pair of wedges. Leather Jacket + Boots

I love the look of feminine mixed with edgy. This is the perfect way to edge up a LBD if you aren't super girly/ feminine. I would pair your black dress with a leather jacket that has some fun and interesting detail- studs, embroidery, colors, etc.- because it adds more fun and excitement to the look. I think this would look really fab with a pair of boots, and not to mention this will look totally badass! If you don't want to look too biker-chic, you can swap out the boots for a pair of heels too add in a little more girly vibes. This is another super feminine way to style a LBD. Throw on a cropped cardigan with your dress and you'll look sweet and chic. I would suggest that the cropped cardigan is colorful (to make it a little more fun) or has some sort of pattern (like an animal print)! Adding a color or print makes this look more appropriate for summer, but also makes it look a little more mature. I would throw on a pretty pair of pointy toed heels with this look.
