How to Style a Leather Jacket

A leather jacket is the perfect jacket to throw over pretty much anything. For some reason, people have a hard time styling a leather jacket to get the perfect amount of edgy in an outfit. Leather jackets are extremely versitile and can be worn with athleisure or a pretty dress. There are so many different ways that a leather jacket can be thrown on to look perfectly chic. Here are a few of my suggestions for how to style a leather jacket and still look polished.

1. A White Tee, Jeans, and Sneakers

To start off, let's break out the basics. A white tee, jeans, and sneakers. This is a look that is just the right amount of casual but still put together. A white tee and jeans can never go wrong, and throwing on a leather jacket creates an instant cool look. A basic outfit like this will never go out out style because it is so effortlessly easy and chic. This outfit is one that is very neutral, so if you are someone who wants to have a little more fun, a leather jacket with some detail (embroidered, studded, etc.) could be a really exciting way to make the look a little more elevated. This is the perfect way to style a leather jacket to go run errands, meet up with a friend for coffee, or head to class.

2. With a Flowy Dress

The best way to create a feminine look with a leather jacket is with a pretty flowy dress. This is the perfect outfit for that transition weather from warm to cold where you arent ready to give up the dresses but need to throw something over it. I think this is one of the chicest ways to wear a leather jacket because it is feminine yet strong. The dress has a flowy look and the jacket is structured which creates a lovely silhouette on any body type. Throwing a leather jacket over a dress also gives off a really effortless look (even if you did spend three hours trying to decide what to wear). Perfect for a stroll through the park, a date night, or a special event!

3. With Leggings and a Sweatshirt

Wearing a leather jacket in a casual way is one of the hardest ways to pull this jacket off. I love how a leather jacket looks thrown over leggings and a sweatshirt. Not only is this look comfortable, but its somehow looks extremely cool. In order to create this athlesure look, it's important to feel confident. Throwing a leather jacket over a sweatshirt automatically gives off an effortless vibe like you didn't try but somehow still look really put together. This look can be worn with sneakers or boots and can be seasonally appropriate by adding a beanie. This would be the perfect travel outfit because you look great, feel casual, and are comfortable!

4. Monochromatic

A way to always look elegant is to wear your leather jacket with monochrome colors. This means over all black, all white, all grey, etc. The point is to create a look that is very simple yet still super flattering and chic. Creating an outfit in all one color not only looks really cool, but can also elongate your body to make you look longer and leaner. Wearing all black with a black leather jacket is a recipe for a perfect date night outfit. Wearing black with all white is ideal for a walk through the park, going to a farmers market, or grabbing lunch with a friend. Different colored monochromatic looks may look more dressed up or dressed down depending on how you style them, but no matter what they always look pretty!

5. Turtleneck and Over The Knee Boots

Throw on a leather jacket over a turtleneck with some over the knee boots and this is an instant glamorous outfit. This look is extremely versatile in terms of what kind of bottoms to wear. A regular turtleneck, pair of jeans, and over the knee boots with a chic leather jacket on top is edgy and street style worthy- great for meeting someone for drinks casually. A turtleneck dress with a pair of over the knee boots is dressy, feminine, and sexy. A turtleneck sweater with a skirt and over the knee boots is charming. This is the perfect combo for the holidays with family or even meeting up with some friends at a bar.
