Since I will be traveling abroad next semester to Florence I thought it would be a good idea to start getting up to date with what to wear in Italy. The fashion in Italy is different than what we wear in the United States, because at all times the Italian people look chic, polished, and put together. In order to not stand out as an America tourist, I want to get informed about what do they really wear over there.
The first thing that I found out about Italian fashion, is that it's all about shoes. This is something that I love, because I am a firm believer that shoes make or break every outfit. In Italy, they are all about leather, so it's not a big surprise that leather shoes are huge there. Leather or suede shoes are essential to fitting into the fashion trends in Italy. In addition to leather shoes, another big show trend is embellished heels.
An interesting aspect of Italian fashion is that they show respect through their outfits. It is just expected that you are dressed to impress, so there are not really dress codes in restaurants, hotels, and parties. They dress based on who they are going to be with and where they are going, but there is no formal dress code. Making an effort to your appearance no matter where you are going is a sign of respect, so it is always appreciated by the local people.
One of the most important parts of Italian fashion is dressing to flatter your body. One trend that is from the US that people wear is oversized, and baggy clothing. Wearing clothing that is flattering is a huge part of clothes in Italy, because everyone dresses to their body type no matter what it is. Wearing flattering clothing includes pants, skirts, and tops. It is really easy to find clothes while you are there that are tailored for every body type and look good no matter where you are.
