Style Tips To Make You Look Taller

The ultimate goal when putting together any outfit, is that is is flattering, slimming, and elongating. If you are super short, like me, looking taller is always important too. There are tons of style tips out there to help make you look taller without needing to wear platform heels. These style tips are super easy and really do help with making you look tall, slim, and confident! Little things make a big difference, but these tricks really do work. You can even combine multiple of these ideas together. So for all my short girls out there, try these hacks to elongate your look!

1. Monochrome

I have talked before about how wearing a monochrome outfit makes you look and feel more put together. Not only does it do that, it helps to elongate your body. The reason for this, is when you wear one color from top to shoes, there is one long continuous line of your body. The eye tends to go where color changes- so if you are wearing a bright colored shoe that is the first thing people will notice about your outfit. That being said, if you are wearing all one color, there is nowhere that the color changes. One color from head to toe can sound boring, but it doesn't have to be! Wear all black or all white and throw on a fun blazer or sweater over it. Or you can pair your monochrome look with exciting jewelry to make it pop. You could even (if you are feeling brave) make your monochrome look in a bright color like blue or purple!

2. High Waisted Pants

The idea of high waisted pants makes some people cringe because they can be uncomfortable when you sit. I happen to love them. High waisted pants are a short girls dream, because by visually creating a waist higher up you are lengthening the look of your legs. To take this one step further, wear a high waisted pant and tuck in your top. This helps create definition in your waist (or in the waist you are creating with the high waistline of the pants) and makes your legs look really long. If you wear the same color shoe as your pants, this really makes your legs look like they go on forever. So if you're wearing a black high waisted pant, try wearing it with a black shoe so the shoe just disappears!

3. Nude Shoes

Similar to the idea that wearing the same color pants and shoes makes your legs look longer, nude shoes do the same thing. The beauty of a nude shoe on a short girl is that you essentially want your shoes to disappear. Again, the eye is drawn to wear color changes in your look, so by wearing a nude shoe no one will be looking at your feet and the eye will be drawn up. A nude shoe can be a heel, a flat, or even a loafer. You just want it to disappear and let the rest of your outfit do the talking. By having your shoes sort of just blend in, you appear taller and more put together!

4. A Long Topper

Most people think that if you are trying to appear longer and taller, you should stick to shorter jackets and sweaters. The truth is, the opposite is actually true. To look like you are taller than you actually are, you want to wear a longer jacket, cardigan, blazer, etc. The length of the topper helps to accentuate your waist being higher than the bottom of the topper, so you appear taller. I love the look of a duster cardigan, a long coat, or even a long boyfriend blazer on a shorter girl. And with a longer topper, a chunky shoe also helps to balance out the length which adds height and helps make you visually look long and lean!

5. Cuff Your Pant

This one seems a little counterintuitive- won't cuffing your pants draw attention to the cuff and not make your leg one long line? The answer to that is yes and no. If you cuff your pants and wear a bright flat shoe with a bright top, your body will look like it's cut off in to many places with too many color changes that make you look choppy- not longer. But if you cuff your pants at the hem and wear a boot that is tight in the shaft and goes under the bottom of your pants- I promise it is elongating. An example of a good way to execute this is to wear a black boot with a little heel that is tight in the shaft with a cuffed boyfriend jean, a tight black top, and even a boyfriend blazer over. It doesn't always have to be a dressy look, but the look of a boot going underneath the cuff of the pants makes your legs look long and your body look elongated. I swear this really works!

Of course there are more tips that make you look taller that have nothing to do with styling your clothes. Feeling and acting confident somehow makes you seem bigger than you are. Also, having good posture and standing up straight helps to make you look taller. No matter how you go about it, there are tons of ways to help make you feel and look tall, even if you are super petite like me!
