Tips for Looking Your Best On Zoom

Something that we never thought we would have to do is figure out how to look great over zoom. Now that classes, work, and interviews are mostly online it is hard to figure out how to look your best over a camera. From makeup, to clothing, to accessories, here are some of my tips to look and feel your best when you are sitting home on your computer.

My first tip is about makeup. One of the perks of online meetings, class, or interviews is that it is harder to see details. Unless you are sitting really close to the camera, most likely people can't tell if you are wearing eyeliner, or your face makeup isn't perfect. When doing makeup for zoom, my advice is that less is more. Don't cake on the foundation because chances are it will just look fake and off color. Also, go simple with eyeshadow. Pick one color that has a little shimmer, or two colors that are very neutral and stick with that. Eyeliner is optional but chances are it is hard to see over the camera so it doesn't matter either way. One thing that is a must is mascara. This will make your eyes look bigger and more alert which is important when talking to someone over a computer and not face to face. Finally, lipstick or lipgloss that are soft and subtle are a great way to tie the whole look together to look polished and put together .

My next advice is all about clothes. Let's be honest- when we are sitting at home there's nothing better than lounge clothes. Having to dress up for a zoom meeting or interview can feel really daunting especially when you haven't gotten dressed up in a while. My tip is to find a nice blouse or top that is really flattering when you are not only standing but sitting down. Most likely, during a zoom you will be sitting and if your top doesn't lay right it will not look flattering and you will not feel your best. Also, don't pick a top with a super busy pattern because it could be distracting. My next advice is to put on real pants. While sitting in a meeting or class or interview in sweatpants sounds ideal, you feel more put together and ready to work when you are dressed head to toe.

My best advice for feeling put together over zoom is to accessorize! My go-to jewelry for an interview is hoop earrings. They look chic, dress up your outfit, and are a way to look fabulous without the fuss. Another way to accessorize would be a simple necklace. Nothing that would overpower the outfit, or draw attention away from your face because the whole point is to draw attention to you, not your clothes/accessories. I would avoid bracelets or anything that will make noise, and you can wear rings but unless you are moving around they won't be seen! Keep it simple and chic and you can't go wrong!

The final part about looking good on zoom is hair. Pick a style that you will not fuss with! This can look really unprofessional, or look like you are nervous if you are sitting there playing with or moving your hair a lot. I would either do a slicked back, polished looking low ponytail or bun if you don't want your hair down. If you do want your hair down, I recommend just a simple straightened or blowout look. This will look professional and pretty, while pulling together the makeup, jewelry, and blouse.
