Tips To Make You Look and Feel Put Together

Getting dressed is supposed to be fun, but it doesn't always feel that way. Sometimes you put together an outfit but you don't feel as good as you would like. It happens to everyone, and some days are just off days where you look good but just don't feel like you look cute. I came up with some general tips to help make you feel more put together all the time, but especially for those days when you just feel blah!

1. Tuck in Your Top

This is a tip that always works. No matter how casual or dressed up you are, most outfits will look more finished with a good old fashioned tuck. Tucking in your shirt gives your waist definition which makes you look slimmer. Even if you aren't trying to bring attention to your waist/ stomach area, tucking in your top gives your whole body a slimmer look and elongates your legs which draws attention away from the tummy. You can do all different kinds of tucks to achieve this put together look. Front tuck, fully tuck, it doesn't matter- either way looks like you know what you're doing and makes you look more chic and together.

2. Pay Attention to How Things Fit

If you are putting outfits together that in theory should look great, but then you try them on and they don't work like you thought, it might be more about how the pieces fit than anything else. I can say honestly from experience, it doesn't matter how good something looks on a hanger, if it doesn't fit right you'll never feel the best. I would say this tip is most important in how your tops fit and the length of your pants. Tops should never pull in the chest, and should not gap in the armpits- this will always make you feel like something about the outfit is off. Pants should be the right length- generally hitting at your ankle bone or a few fingers above. When things fit you better, you feel better!!

3. Invest in Quality Neutral Pieces

Even if you have a really fun, colorful, whimsical style you will always need those basic foundation pieces in your wardrobe. Having good quality neutral pieces is so important because these are things that will never go out of style, can be worn often, and will stay looking good for long periods of time. If you love color and pattern, you still need neutral pieces that will allow those more fun pieces in your outfit to shine. This is where the neutral pieces come into play. Having these great quality pieces allows you to feel confident when wearing them- which, in turn, will make you feel more put together. Confidence and feeling good go hand in hand when it comes to fashion, so investing in pieces you love and can wear all the time will add confidence to any outfit.

4. Take Care of Your Nails

This might seem like a silly one, but keeping your nails looking nice actually makes a huge difference in your appearance. Taking good care of your nails gives the impression that you care, and when you feel good you emulate a more put together vibe. Taking care of your nails does not necessarily mean that they always need to have a perfect manicure. If you are a nail polish person- that's great! Pick colors you love that make you feel good and try to keep up with your nails when they start to chip. If you hate nail polish- that's great too. Keep your nails looking nice by filing them and keeping them looking healthy and maintained. You can even use a clear coat of polish just for a little shine! Regardless, taking care of your nails will help you feel more put together when you are getting dressed.

5. Have a Style Uniform

I feel like this one needs a little more explaining. A "style uniform" just means an outfit that you feel really great, comfortable, and confident in. An example is a graphic tee, jeans, and sneakers. Essentially, a style uniform is like a go to outfit that you know will make you feel good on those days you just feel kind of blah and uninspired. When you have those off days of getting dressed, it is so helpful to know your style uniform because that is always a go to backup that you know will make you feel great. This doesn't mean you should reach for the same graphic tee and jeans every single time- it just means you know that style of outfit makes you feel good. Try switching up the tee, tying or tucking it, or a different pair of shoes instead of sneakers to put little twists on your uniform. Know your style and what makes you feel amazing, because that will always make you feel put together and cute.

6. Quick Hair and Makeup

When I say quick, that does not mean you need to be able to do your hair and makeup in 2 minutes. This just means that you should have a quick go to hairstyle and makeup routine that you know makes you feel good. Sometimes you put together an amazing outfit, but something feels off- this might be because of hair or makeup. If you are having a bad hair day- throw your hair up into a cute hairstyle. Try a cool braid, bun, or ponytail. I love a nice ponytail with a braid, and it's so easy and quick. In terms of makeup, to feel more put together, try and use colors and shades that enhance your skin tone and features. For example, I have hazel eyes so when I do eyeshadow I tend to stick to golds and pinks. I know those colors always make my eyes pop more- so know what you like and what is easy in order to feel more put together and confident!

7. Practice Good Posture

This one seems so simple, but it's something I am always constantly reminding myself about. Having good posture makes you look taller and slimmer, not to mention makes you look like you have your sh*t together. You come off as more composed and poised when you hold yourself with a good strong posture. Not only do you look better, but your outfits actually look better when you are not all slouched over. I know this one seems so simple, but standing with good posture- no joke- makes you feel better. I can't explain it but this tip really works. You will look better and feel better when you practice good posture in your everyday life.
