What I Wear To Class In Italy

As much fun as it is to just be abroad to see the different fashion of each European country, I am ultimately here for school. Part of that is attending class once a week for two and a half hours. The difference between attending classes in the heart of Florence and on a campus at Indiana University is what people wear. At Indiana, wearing leggings and a sweatshirt to class is the usual, but in Florence you need major street style no matter where you are headed- including classes.

As someone who is comfortable wearing jeans everyday, I had no issues thinking up cute outfits that could be worn on the weekends and also to class when I was packing up my suitcase. The biggest struggle though, is getting a balance of a casual outfit that is not considered sloppy or overdressed. In addition to trying to find the perfect balance of casual but cute, I have to take into consideration that I am in two cooking classes that require a cooking shirt, apron, and hat. This means I need to find clothes that will lay comfortably under my cooking uniform while not making me sweat!

There are so many ways to create a really cute, casual, and also comfortable outfit. I love finding creative ways to wear t-shirts even when it’s too cold for a real tee outside. I love finding a fun, colorful graphic tee and wearing it with a long sleeve shirt underneath. This is the easiest way to make a t-shirt ready for any weather. A tee could also easily be worn with a turtleneck under it if the weather is really calling for more layers. Another thing that can be done is just to wear the solid colored long sleeve/ turtleneck tucked into jeans and call it a day!

A really simple outfit that is super comfy but also cute is wearing a patterned, crewneck sweatshirt with jeans. I have a grey camo crewneck sweatshirt that I paired with ripped jeans, booties, and some gold accessories and just like that I was ready for class and the streets of Florence! Any cute sweatshirt would do the trick to pull this outfit off. The sweatshirt doesn’t even have to have a pattern. Wearing a solid colored sweatshirt (I have both a solid black and solid white one) with jeans or black jeans is such an effortless but chic look. This is the look that seems to be the most “street style” to me because of the causal feel of the sweatshirt but also a little dressed up with a pair of jeans.

Luckily the weather has been chilly enough that I can wear a sweater and jeans or a sweater and leggings and be ready just like that. This is such a simple and cute outfit that works when its freezing outside. This look is so easy to accessorize with earrings, rings, and necklaces to make it look more dressed up than it feels. A sweater can also easily be worn with a sleek skirt to instantly make your outfit more edgy. I am waiting until the weather warms up a but more to bring out my skirt, but any sort of top can easily be thrown on with my long black skirt to create a feminine but casual outfit.

One last fun class outfit that is super easy is a jumpsuit. This is probably the easiest out of everything for me to style into my everyday wardrobe and for class. In this cold weather, my black jumpsuit can be worn with a sweater underneath it. I have a grey sweater with puffed sleeved that would be such an easy and cute outfit. I can also throw a sweater on over the jumpsuit instead of under. My jumpsuit is a tank top, so I could easily put a sweater over it which would make it just look like a flowy pair of black pants. When the weather gets warmer, it will be super easy to just wear a t shirt of any color underneath the jumpsuit, or even wear the jumpsuit with only a cardigan over.

There are so many different possibilities of outfits to wear to class as well as on the weekends. It is definitely a challenge trying to re-wear the same articles of clothing in different ways, but it is also exciting. While a challenge, it is also super fun and exciting being able to create new looks that might be a little out of my comfort zone. Hopefully this challenge allows me to grow my personal style each and every day.
